There is a lot to learn from how other industries manage creative professionals. Stage managers wrangle directors, designers, and actors every day—under strict union guidelines. Editors cajole writers into producing on-time(ish) for each week. Conductors balance the needs of dozens of musicians while staying true to the needs of the music. And the martial system of management that is common in any fine dining establishment is the stuff of legends. These disciplines can teach us how to build and support creative environments that are conducive to excellent work that is also on-time and on-budget.

Bryan Mason and Sarah Nelson of Adaptive Path will introduce you to 10 techniques used by creative management professionals to get great work from your team.

Great Job! Appreciated the research and real- life examples that I can take back with me.

Where can we find the presentation? I feel like I saw it up on the presenation download page and now it's gone :(

Yes, presentation please - I had to leave at point 7 and I am missing out. This session was really interesting

Hey all - Glad you enjoyed the session.

You can find this talk, with audio from our SXSW presentation here:

I really liked the tips and the slides were beautifully done, but I felt like the presenters were a bit lackluster. Perhaps just tired. My notes on the talk are posted here: http://whitneyhess.com/blog/2008/09/web-20-expo-ny-10-tips-for-creative-environments/

Enjoyed seeing how creatives in different environments collaborate and maximize their creativity and results. Particularly enjoyed the concept of having an "After Party" vs. a "post-mortem"...... much more pleasant and I imagine productive too.

The presenters expertly transformed, through metaphor and example, what could've been dry or off-putting into a wholly entertaining and memorable enrichment. Thanks!

Excellent presentation - organized, effective, interesting. I liked the concept of reviewing different types of creative organizations to see what works best. Well done!
