Leveraging the Clouds for Reliable Web Applications

1:20 - 2:10PM on Wednesday, September 17 2008 in A03

Cloud computing has become a disruptive force in the computing world by providing pay-as-you-go, on-demand compute and storage resources that can expand to be virtually infinite for the needs of most companies. But we are now evolving from the initial stage of “scaling my app in the cloud” to the next stage where the focus shifts to fault-tolerant and redundant deployments. With new cloud providers coming online rapidly, clouds now offer disaster recovery, redundancy, and geolocation options beyond what even affordable traditional hosting solutions can offer. With all these new options comes more complexity. How do you deploy an application across multiple clouds? What are the challenges and opportunities for application design and deployment? Thorsten von Eicken, Founder & CTO of RightScale, will discuss the evolving cloud landscape, the new issues it raises, and approaches and solutions that yield practical results for those considering leveraging the clouds today.
